 Commentaries
We Believe:
That the Bible is the only divinely inspired Word of God and that it is, therefore, the final authority in matters of faith and practice.
That there is one God, eternally existing and manifesting Himself to us in three persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
That our Lord Jesus Christ
- was supernaturally conceived
by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary;
- that He taught and wrought mighty works exactly as recorded in the four Gospels;
- was put to death by crucifixion under Pontius Pilate;
- was raised from the dead in the body that had been nailed to the cross;
- that He ascended into heaven and now sits at the Fathers right hand as our intercessor from whence we expect His immanent, personal, bodily and visible return to receive His Church and to inaugurate His millennial reign;
- that of His own choice He laid aside His divine glory and took upon Himself the form of a servant and was made in the likeness of man;
- that He became in every respect a real man, possessed of all the essential characteristics of human nature, yet without sin;
- and that by His death on the cross, the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished a perfect redemption for us from the curse of the law, becoming a curse in our place.
That the Holy Spirit is a person, is God, and is possessed of all the distinctively divine attributes: that He indwells all believers, having sealed them to the day of redemption and for all eternity, and having baptized them into the Body of Christ at the time of regeneration.
That man, having been created by God and in His own image, fell, and therefore, in his natural self is without God and without hope in the world apart from salvation through the redemptive work of God.
That forgiveness of sin and salvation, made possible by the vicarious (substitutionary) death of Jesus Christ on the cross comes to man through personal faith in the Crucified One, the Lord Jesus Christ, and that salvation is by grace.
That baptism in water is an act of obedience by which the believer makes public testimony of his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; and that salvation is by faith alone.
That there is a personal devil, a creature of great cunning, who can exert vast power only as far as God suffers him to do so, and who will ultimately be cast into the lake of fire and brimstone.
That there will be a bodily resurrection of the saved and of the lost; that the saved shall appear in Heaven at the judgment seat of Christ to receive rewards and to dwell with Him in heaven; that the lost shall be judged at the great white throne for their works and shall be cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where they will suffer conscious punishment forever.
